Overview
The battle of Dien Bien Phu was a significant military confrontation between the French Union forces and the Viet Minh, which resulted in a decisive victory for the Viet Minh and ultimately led to the end of French colonial rule in Indochina. The battle was a complex and intense military operation, and its historical significance cannot be described in terms of difficulty level.
Muong Phang, a commune in the northwest region of Vietnam near the Laos border, holds historical significance as a strategic base for the Viet Minh during the First Indochina War. It served as a secret sector where General Vo Nguyen Giap closely monitored the progress of the campaign. In this crucial location, General Giap faced the arduous task of making a difficult decision that would ultimately contribute to the victorious outcome of the Battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954.
MORNING:
Meeting at the hotel lobby and drive out to visit the Dien Bien Phu historical sites; the battle cemetery, the museum which displays events in the war against the French in 1954 and then continue on to visit some French positions such as Hill A1, Muong Thanh Bridge (the bailey bridge!), General De Castrie's bunker, an artillery base nearby as well as the memorial Victory Statue on the Dominique hill.
AFTERNOON
Take a 25 km drive up mountains to visit the headquarter of the Vietnamese during the battle 1954. Walk through the forest and on the paved trail to visit the place where Gen.Vo Nguyen Giap and his chief commanders worked.
On the way back we will stop over at Pa Khoang Reservoir covers an area of about 2,400 hectares which is set in a beautiful landscape of natural forest. Boating to visit the orchids island, sightseeing a large atmosphere green areas with surrounding forest and mountains.
4:30 PM. Return to Dien Bien Phu. On the way, you will visit a place where Viet Minh started to haul canon and artilleries up hill during the French war; and also we will visit one Thai tribal village. Walk at leisure, photograph and meet the local people and children.
Then we will dine and perhaps share some rice wine with a family in one of thestilt houses. You would have a chance for desire drinking, traditional dishes…
After dinner an entertainment of Xoe dancing and Bamboo dancing (Mua Sap) can be arranged. This is usually performed around an open flame (extra payment is charged if you wish to organise)
Finish the show and return to your hotel. Say good bye and end the trip.
FYI: The Thai minority is one of the ethnic groups living in the Northwest region. They live and cultivate near the forest and stream areas that is to facilitate agricultural activities and fishing. Stilt houses are a characteristic traditional feature of their culture.
In their daily lives, the Thai people mainly engage in agriculture, growing rice, sugarcane, and raising livestock. They also have traditional handicrafts such as weaving fabric, knitting fishing gear, and hunting tools.
