ITINERARY:
DAY 1: HANOI – DIEN BIEN PHU (Lunch, Dinner)
Upon landing at Dien Bien Phu airport, you will be greeted by your driver and tour guide who will accompany you throughout your stay. Car will transfer you to your hotel, where you can check in and take a short rest to refresh yourself after the journey.
2h00 PM. We will embark on a visit to some of the historic sites of the French War in Dien Bien Phu. Our first stop will be the Victory Museum, where keeps many valuable documents and objects related to the historic Dien Bien Phu campaign. You can learn more about the significance of the battle and its impact on Vietnam's history.
Next, we will visit A1 Hill (Elian 2) – the strongest fortification which played an important role in the battle. This strategic location witnessed intense fighting and was a key stronghold for both the Vietnamese and French forces. Walking through the preserved trenches and bunkers, you can imagine the intensity of the combat that occurred here. The site serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by soldiers on both sides and the lasting impact of the battle.
Then, you visit De Castries bunker - It is located in the middle of the battlefield and offers an opportunity to step into the past and witness the conditions in which the French command operated. As you explore the bunker, you can see the strategic layout, the communication equipment used, and the living quarters of General de Castries and his staff.
Continuing our tour, we will make our way to the Victory Monument on the hilltop (Dominique 2). This monument stands as a symbol of the Vietnamese triumph and honors the soldiers who fought bravely in the battle. It made of bronze with the weight of 220 tone.
Finally, we will visit Him Lam Hill (Beatrice), another important site of the battle which fell on the first day of attack 13 March, 1954. Here, you can witness the strategic location with its long fortifications and trenches of Legionary French’s army. Because of this separated position, so that provided the Vietnamese forces with an advantage to quickly annihilated this after one hour of the conflict.
After the tour, we will return to the hotel, where you can enjoy the rest of the evening at your leisure. (Dine out at a local restaurant)
DAY 2: DIEN BIEN PHU – TUAN GIAO TOWN (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

After breakfast at the hotel, you will have some leisure time to relax or explore the surroundings at your own pace. You can take a leisurely walk around the area, immersing yourself in the local culture and soaking in the atmosphere of Dien Bien Phu.
9.00 AM: Check out your accommodation, car will take you around 30 kms to Muong Phang commune. On the way, you have a chance to take a look along Ta Leng village - it is great place with harmonious landscapes, green mountain ranges which offers you a splendid panoramic view of the valley of rice terraces and looming in the distance, you can see the Black Thai and Mong ethnic villages.
10h00 AM. Arrive in the center of Muong Phang and taking photos with the Victory monument where VPA (Vietnamese people’s Army marched after they gain the great victory). Then continuing to walk through the forest visiting the Vietnamese Command post where General Giap works with his staff and the Chinese military advisors during the French war.
Muong Phang given the Thai people's name for this place, which translates to "frozen area" during winter, it becomes evident that its altitude of 960 meters above sea level sets it apart from Dien Bien Phu, which about at 480 meters. This region, situated near the mountainside, was a jungle that is partially concealed by a dense mist, preventing French aircraft from discovering the hidden base. Additionally, General Giap has the advantage of being able to reach the mountain's summit, a four-kilometer uphill trek, where an observation post is stationed. Took advantage of this elevated position, he can effectively oversee the progress of the campaign through his binoculars, closely monitoring the success of the attack strategies.
For a few minute walk, you will get to the gate which leading to entrance of the commander in chief was the designated residence for General Vo Nguyen Giap, his staff, and Chinese military advisers during the Dien Bien Phu wartime, spanning from January 31st to May 15th, 1954. As you explore this area, you can walk through the hilly forest and visit the bunker where Gen. Vo Nguyen Giap and the tunnel where his chief commanders worked.
After visiting this area, we will take a further transfer forwarding to Tuan Giao town.
As we continue our journey, en route we will make a stop for lunch on the top of Tang Quai Pass. This high pass offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes and is an ideal spot to take a break and enjoy a delicious meal which well prepared in advance.
3h00 PM. Arrive to Tuan Giao town. Check in at the hotel. Take a short rest.
You have the rest of the day to explore and experience the local life in this town as visiting local market (300 meter from the hotel) where you can find a variety of fresh produce, local handicrafts, and traditional Vietnamese snacks. Stroll through the market, interact with the friendly locals, and immerse yourself in the bustling atmosphere. That is not only one of the best ways to truly experience the life of a town with its residents, but also will provide you with a deeper understanding of the town's traditions and way of life.
6h00 PM. Take a walk to a Thai village where consists of hundreds of houses on wooden stilts and Thai people cultivate the water rice, see the rural work on rice fields, and you will have a welcome feeling at any house of the hospitable people there. Feel free to interact with local villagers. Dinner at a Thai local village. It is a relax time to share some rice wine with people, experience local tasty foods. Then having a dancing show called Xoe, Sap skipping, being fun with dancing, singing among the flame.

DAY 3: DIEN BIEN PHU – TUA CHUA TOWN (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
8h00 AM. Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel.
8h30 AM. Check out Hotel and take a trip to Tua Chua (50 Kms from Tuan Giao. There are so many spectacular sceneries on route).
Most of the Tua Chua area are Rocky Mountains and limestone mountains with a few rivers and streams. It has a fresh and cool climate all year round. Tua Chua has many pristine and majestic natural landscapes. Tua Chua reveals a unique beauty every season, but it is most beautiful from September to May. Visitors to the area at this time of the year can enjoy the cool and fresh air and admire the colorful ripe rice crops in the terraced fields. During the ripe rice season, the fields turn a golden color and attract many tourists.
Going to Tua Chua in the spring, visitors will be immersed in the festivals of the Mong ethnic group, watching and freely taking pictures with peach, plum, and rape flowers; admire and experience the pleasure of hunting clouds to take beautiful, unique and strange pictures.
10.00 AM. Turn over to one commune to explore Kho Chua La Cave where you can find many beautiful natural shapes. Most of the cave background is rocky, due to the split limestone terrain along with the process of dissolved karst and carbonate condensation, forming a lot of yellow, gray, green moss stalactites or stone pillars, stalagmites…. Do not miss an opportunity to take some photographs of this beautiful cave.
12h00 AM. arrive to Tua Chua town, check in your accommodation (Thai homestay) and have a break for lunch.
14h00 PM. Drive to visit Tua Chua rocky plateau by the roadside. Stop for a short walk to enjoy the tranquility and spectacular landscape and also you can see Mong people working on the upland fields. Because of this terrain located among the vast limestone areas, the Mong ethnic community in the communes of Ta Phin, Sin Chai have known for generations to choose the hollows rock to fill more soil for growing rice paddy and corn.
Stop at a Mong village to meet the locals and discover their authentic lifestyle, and take a look at the beautiful rice field valleys and hamlets on the hills that still preserve the authentic low houses. Stop for a chance to take photos, and continue to stroll down village trails, on the way you will be captivated by the angelic smiles of poor local children.
In the late afternoon, return to your accommodation for rest and dinner. Freely at leisure with a short time for exploring the town at night (it may have a local night market which often fall on every weekends)
DAY 4: TUA CHUA – DIEN BIEN PHU (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
7h00 AM. Have breakfast at a local restaurant then transfer back to Tuan Giao.
Drive up to 28 kms, we turn on to the quiet road, as you travel along the way, you'll see the stunning views of the rural countryside, with impressive mountains and tranquil rice fields stretching out before you. It is a good time for you to attend Rang Dong local market with crowded ethnic minority groups. It is a chance for you to communicate with them, buy several small keepsakes for your trip.
Continue to drive up the pass, the road is a bit bumpy at times, but the rough route is quickly compensated by the magnificent scenery, winding slopes, and green mountains which covered by corn, upland rice fields. Stop en route where you can view magnificent panoramic views of the valley, and you can really appreciate the wonderful scenery that surrounds you – a photographer’s dream.
Arrive in Tuan Giao. You can stop here if you would like a tea break.
Continue to Dien Bien Phu city. Check in the hotel. Dinner and stay the night there.
DAY 5: DIEN BIEN PHU – HANOI (Breakfast, Lunch)
