The Ban flower, a pure white bloom and the symbol of Dien Bien, represents beauty and resilience. Every year, during the February lunar month, when the weather begins to warm up with gentle spring rains, the ban flowers bloom white all over the mountains and forests. During this time, the Thai minority in Northwest Vietnam celebrates the ban flower festival.

This occasion is not only a festival of love and happiness but also an opportunity for the Thai people to pray for good harvests and blessings. It expresses filial piety towards grandparents and parents while providing a chance for boys and girls to interact and get to know each other through singing and playing musical instruments.

Moreover, this festival offers an opportunity for exciting cultural and sports events. It features folk dances such as Xoe dancing and scarf dancing, alongside competitions like crossbow shooting, shuttlecock throwing, tug-of-war, and stick pushing. Additionally, various performances showcase local talent and delicious cuisine.

The Xen Ban (Xen Muong) ceremony usually takes place in the spring (late January to early February of the lunar calendar), when the ban flowers begin to bloom. This ceremony signifies the announcement of the gods—water gods, mountain gods, gods of the forest, and land of deities—who come to enjoy offerings, express gratitude, and the gods who enlightened the village. At the same time, it serves as an opportunity to pray to heaven and earth for good rain, favorable winds, and bountiful harvests, while conveying wishes for a peaceful life.

This festival is organized in the middle of January annually, when the cherry and peach blossoms are in full bloom everywhere, especially around Pa Khoang Lake, which is located in the northern part of Dien Bien Phu city.
Cherry blossoms in Dien Bien Phu have now become an attractive brand and destination, drawing both domestic and foreign tourists and enriching the province's unique resources and tourism products. This contributes to strengthening exchanges, further tightening solidarity and friendship, and bringing Japanese images and culture to a large number of people in Dien Bien province and the Northwest region.
The Dien Bien Cherry Blossom Festival is a meaningful cultural event that helps enhance exchanges and cooperation between Vietnam and Japan. It also serves as an opportunity for domestic and foreign tourists to visit, experience the beauty of cherry blossoms, and explore the unique cultural features of Dien Bien.

The Water Splashing Festival, known in Lao as 'Bun Huot Nam,' is a unique cultural feature celebrated by the Lao ethnic community in Dien Bien. This festival usually takes place in mid-April when the red cotton tree flowers are in bloom in Na Sang 1, Dien Bien District. It is a profound spiritual ritual that expresses gratitude to the gods and ancestors for granting favorable weather, bountiful crops, health, and luck to all the villagers.
At this year's festival, attendees and tourists can immerse themselves in various activities, such as worshiping and praying, tying wrist threads for good luck, and participating in folk games like turtle egg hatching, tiger pouncing on pigs, and picking ripe melons. Additionally, the festival features joyful water splashing along with traditional Lam Vong dances, fun group activities where participants go door-to-door asking for water, and ceremonies to worship the river and stream gods, culminating in the lively tradition of splashing water for fortune.

There are various festivals in Dien Bien that will be updated soon.
